There are few more recognizable personalities in the Midwest fitness competition community than Dano Lotz. Dano is currently affiliated with both CrossFit Rigor and CrossFit Thousand Lakes. He has been a fixture at GameDay events for the past few years and our upcoming event in Eau Claire marks the anniversary of us meeting Dano. He’s a terrific athlete and coach and someone we’re just all around proud to know.
Dano, tell us a little bit about yourself.
I’m 26 years old, I have a form of muscular dystrophy that effects the lower part of my legs. I grew up playing sports and when I was 12 I was put in leg braces and told I’d never play again. I started lifting weights when I was 16 and stopped wearing leg braces right before I turned 20. I’ve been doing CrossFit since March 2014 and now do everything my doctors said I would do.
Dano, what made you start competing in this sport?
The fact that I’m not supposed to be able to do it.
What do you enjoy most about competition day?
The nervous feeling right before the first event followed by the adrenaline rush when it starts.
What’s your favorite all time workout or movement?
Do you have any advice for first time competitors or people thinking about trying a competition?
Have fun! Try hard! Stick to your game plan.
