Have Fun, Don’t Die
An Interview with Jasai Ferrucho of CrossFit Nordeast
I’ve have the pleasure of interviewing Jasai Ferrucho, athlete at Crossfit Nordeast. Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I started Crossfit in Fall of 2014. I played basketball in College and after I graduated I tried different league sports and running and attending gym classes at LA Fitness but I was looking for more. I missed the team atmosphere and the competition.
What made you start competing in this sport?
My first competition was Gameday Championship in 2014, there was an RX team for our gym and they needed and extra girl. I wasn’t really sure what I was getting myself too but I accepted the challenge. I didn’t have a lot of the movements but I had the strength to do it. We had a great showing with our team and it was so much fun that I was hooked from then on.

What do you enjoy most about competition day?
My favorite thing about competing is teamwork. I usually partner with people that are faster and do gymnastics better than I do, so we can complement each other. I also love, surprising myself and seeing others excel and doing things together that we did not know our bodies could do.
I have never done an Individual competition because I love having teammates but maybe that will be the next challenge in the near future.

What’s your favorite all time workout or movement?
My favorite movement will have to be toes to bar. When I first started I folded like a taco to get my feet to the bar. I have become more proficient and I believe it is a movement that helps you with a lot other movements.
My favorite WOD at Gameday was during my first competition when we had to do 5 rep max deadlift. My teammate Jen Halvo did 333 lbs, and I have never attempted anything above 300. I gave it a tried because we had some time and I got it! It was definitely a highlight for me that I will remember forever. Our team won that event!!!!
Do you have any advice for first time competitors or people thinking about trying a competition?
