GameDay fans…. Meet Lindsey Melander of CrossFit Calypso! Lindsey is originally from Armstrong, Iowa and she is a nurse at Fairview Clinics in Farmington, MN. Her favorite food is crunchy peanut butter, and she loves spending time with her gym family.
What’s your proudest accomplishment as an athlete?
Probably my first competition as an individual and not with a team. I was terrified, but being able to overcome that fear and just do it was amazing!
Lindsey, what made you start competing in this sport?
My coaches were really the ones that encouraged me to compete. I originally started CrossFit when the gym was offering a 6 week boot camp trial, and I fell in love with after that! This is my 4th competition, and I also competed in GameDay Championship in St.Paul last year with my team.
What is your favorite thing about competition day?
There’s so much that I enjoy about competition day, but the biggest highlights are the awesome team environment, shopping at all the vendor booths (they have so much cool stuff!), and cheering on people you don’t even know and wanting them to succeed.
What’s your favorite workout or movement of all time?
Definitely clean and jerks! To me, it’s such a natural movement, and I feel like I don’t even have to think about it as I’m working. I also had never done olympic movements before CrossFit, so that was a big change!
Do you have any advice for first time competitors or people thinking about trying a competition?
Just do it! It is totally worth it, and you gain an experience like never before.
