GameDay community, meet Stacy Loushin. She has been a member of CrossFit Progression for 11 months and is a former swimmer at the University of Cincinnati. She she's not training, she's a biomedical engineer at Mayo Clinic.
Stacy, what made you decide to start competing in CrossFit?
I had been a swimmer most of my life and competed throughout college. When I was done swimming, I was lost. My entire life someone had told me how to workout and now I was on my own. People had suggested joining CrossFit before, but I didn’t want to join. After a couple of years of frustration with working out I walked into the gym and instantly fell in love with the sport. After joining I knew that I needed to compete.
What do you enjoy most about competition day?
My favorite moments are the 10 seconds right before the workout starts. At that time, I can block out the crowd and my other competitors and just focus on myself and the workout before me. It’s in that moment you really figure out what you are made of and what you are capable of. Whether you want to run away or run towards the pain. All of the hours of hard work that you have put in all come down to that moment.
”Enjoy the moment. Being nervous is normal but competing is all about seeing what your body is capable of.
What is your favorite all time movement?
Bar over burpees. Such a simple movement but so much pain that can come from it!
Do you have any advice for first time competitors or people thinking about trying a competition?
Enjoy the moment. Being nervous is normal but competing is all about seeing what your body is capable of. No matter what happens, you will come out of the competition a stronger person than you were before it.
