Steven O’Brien – Detour Athletics

By May 6, 2019 May 11th, 2019 Athletes, GameDay Rochester

GameDay Community… Meet Steven O’Brien from Detour Athletics! I caught up with him after he hit an awesome 275lb thruster in the second Men’s RX Individual workout of the weekend.

What made you start competing in this sport?

I played a lot of sports growing up, which lead to me playing college football, but I quit my sophomore year of college due to concussions. I came across CrossFit 9/10 years ago, and picked up competing after training with the head coach in town and he convinced me to try out a competition in 2017. Since then, I’ve competed in a few different GameDay competitions.

How’d you feel out on the floor when you hit that 275lb Thruster?

It’s pretty awesome to hear the crowd cheering when you hit something like that! It wasn’t a PR for me, but it still feels good after doing a grueling leg workout like the first one of the day .

What is your favorite thing about our GameDay Competitions?

The community is really awesome, it’s great to have all of these people out here for support. No matter how you do, everyone is always congratulating each other, it’s always a blast and an awesome environment!

Will we be seeing you at GameDay Rochester?

Yes! I’ll be competing in the Men’s RX division with my team.
