GameDay fans…. Meet Eric Reimer of CrossFit Acceleration!
Tell us about you!
I was born and raised in Reedsburg, WI. Not to give you normal answer and say I work out for fun… but I do! I also enjoy coaching and writing programs for my fellow athletes at CrossFit Acceleration, and for my Fitness Company (RAPS Fitness Academy).
What’s your favorite meal?
For a cheat day, nothing beats a big greasy ½ pound cheese burger with a side of onion rings and cheese curds. During the week for meal prepping, my meal of choice is crack chicken (shredding chicken mixed with cream cheese and a dry ranch packet) and brown rice on the side.
What’s your favorite all time workout or movement?
Any total workout or barbell movement. Deadlift, C/J, Snatch, Cluster, etc.
What do you enjoy most about competition day?
The adrenaline & challenge of the spot light! Although deep down I am nervous, on the verge of puking and sh*tting my pants, I thrive in the spot light. Typically, no one has ever seen a guy my size compete in CrossFit. Everywhere I go there are preconceived notions that a guy my size can only move weight. I enjoy doing my best to prove them wrong with endurance and body weight movements as well! We have a slogan at our Box; “Embrace the Suck.” Funny, simple, but if you truly embrace the pain and misery, you will succeed!
What’s your proudest accomplishment as an athlete?
Proving to myself I still have what it takes to be not only an athlete, but a competitor. A close second; stringing together bar muscle up’s at a body weight of nearly 300 lbs.
What made you start competing in this sport? How long have you been competing?
I am new to competing in CrossFit, but have been a in the community for 5 years. Looking back on why I started competing; I felt there was something missing in my life and I didn’t know what is was. I have been a part of competitive sports my whole life and after I was done playing college football for the University of Northern Iowa, I just stopped working out, and competing all together. I didn’t realize that fitness and competition would greatly improve my overall well-being and the development of my career.
Do you have any advice for first time competitors or people thinking about trying a competition?
If this is truly your passion; enjoy it, embrace it and you will succeed! Don’t be afraid of the environment, loud music, and everyone screaming and shouting. After the first workout; you will consumed with adrenaline, and you will realize there is no greater feeling.
How has CrossFit impacted your life?
I love the CrossFit community and everything it offers. Love, support, friendship, and competition. I have never been a part of something that continues to beat you down but keeps you coming back for more. But most of all, I love being a dad to my little girl. She is at gym with me every day, soaking up the knowledge and just watching everything that is going on. I could not ask for a better group of friends, and role models for my girl than we have at CrossFit Acceleration. It truly is a blast coaching, motivating and watch her become the young, smart, and strong girl that she is.
Will we be seeing you at GameDay Chicago?
Sadly you will not. My wife and I are expecting our second child (baby boy) on 9/7/19. Good luck to everyone, kick some ass!
