GameDay fans…. Meet Sheila Kelsey of CrossFit 608!
How did you get started with CrossFit and fitness?
I’ve been doing CrossFit for about 7 years, and I started in the Cedar Rapids area. I actually started out kickboxing, but I was getting bored and I even hurt my foot at one point, so I decided to try something different! One of my friends had just opened up a gym, so I started going… My first workout there was Karen and I have been addicted ever since!
Did you come from a fitness background?
I did! I am actually a personal trainer at planet fitness, and I really enjoy working with people through the very beginning of their fitness journeys. I don’t use machines with my clients, we work on the fundamentals to get a solid base, and then I refer them over to my friends’ gyms! (Shout out to CrossFit Aberrant and OC3!)
What’s your favorite workout or movement of all time?
I absolutely love clean and jerks! I hate snatches (weak shoulder doesn’t help), but I have a goal to conquer Isabel at RX. I am always working on pull-ups, and I still love Karen, I try to beat my time every year! I do not love wall balls, but they are better than thrusters at least! Hand stand holds are fun as well, and I’m working on getting handstand push-ups down.
What’s your favorite thing about our competitions?
I love that the workouts with GameDay are always changing and it’s something new every time!

You sure will!
What would you tell someone who is on the fence about entering their first competition?
Just jump in! There is nothing to be afraid of. What matters is that you are competing against yourself, not the others. Being on a team helps you build so much more confidence, and all of the athletes make you feel so good about yourself. It’s a community of people that just want to see you succeed! No matter how good you are, you will always the chance to get better, and these comps help you do that.
