GameDay fans…. Meet The Blister Sisters!
A few months ago at GameDay Rochester, I met up with Heather Lee, Donna Leff, and Melissa Danks of Kato CrossFit!
What made you first get involved with this sport?
Heather: I got started 2 years ago when a friend suggested I come try it out, and I’ve been hooked ever since!
Donna: I had a friend who introduced me to it as well, I did not want to do it at first, but he was bigger than me so I listened 😉
Melissa: My cousin brought me to bring a friend day and just like Heather, I’ve been hooked ever since and joined shortly after!
Have you guys competed before? Or is this your first competition as a team?
Yes, it is our first competition competing together! We have competed in other events before, but this is our first GameDay event!
Since it’s your first GameDay Event, what did you guys think?
We’ve been involved with volunteering for GameDay events before, but being on the competition side of things is very, very different, but so exciting! We think you’ve all done a great job putting all the pieces together and having the day flow really well. Being an athlete competing, it’s so cool to see how much better you do when that adrenaline hits you, you can move weight that you wouldn’t even think about doing on a normal day!
What’s your best advice for someone who is thinking about entering their first competition?
Melissa: I say just go with people that you know and trust, and just pace yourself and enjoy it! It’s just like a workout in the gym, aside from the fact that there are a lot more people and it’s a higher level of competition.
Heather: It is definitely different on the competition floor, but you have to try it! If you never try it then you’ll never know if you like it or not. For me, I’ve learned that I push myself so much harder at competitions than I would in class or even during things like Friday Night Lights. I end up doing things I never thought I could do, and I realize I can do bigger things and I need to push myself more in class!
Donna: I agree with these ladies, you just gotta dive in! I am miles out of my comfort zone when I do these, but they’re so fun and you’ll get hooked!
