Amanda Moe – CrossFit Southpaw

GameDay fans…. Meet Amanda Moe of CrossFit Southpaw!

Tell us about you!

I grew up in Waconia, MN and currently live in Blaine, MN. I am a photographer and love story telling with images and recently picked up embroidery as a hobby – using an embroidery hoop and creating designs. My husband is amazing at cooking on his Traeger. It’s the best when he grills salmon and we make it into fish tacos with a mango jicama slaw!

What made you start competing in this sport? How long have you been competing?

I am a stay at home mom and that can feel lonely a lot of the time. I was longing for a community to be a part of and my dad introduced me to CrossFit. I did our in-house open and loved the excitement that came along with it – it reminded me of my days as a gymnast. My first competition was GameDay Mankato this past year and I’m looking forward to more competitions in the future!

What do you enjoy most about competition day?

It’s such a rush! As athletes we train for it and it’s truly a culmination of our work.

What’s your favorite all time workout or movement?

I am not 100% on a favorite movement but right now I am really excited that I’m pushing my PR on my back squat and super close to getting a bar muscle up!

How do you prepare yourself for a grueling workout?

I think the community of CrossFit helps with the hard workouts so much. We are there cheering each other on and pushing each other. When I don’t have a team around me I just try to remind myself that strength grows when we work through the weakness. When I am uncomfortable and struggling, I know when I am done I will feel a great satisfaction with myself and experience growth.

What would you tell someone who is on the fence about entering their first competition?

Take in all in and don’t put any expectations on your performance!
